I have many readers in other countries, so for those of you whom have never visited the states and had the pleasure of eating at a Chic-fil-A, here's a little introduction. Chic-fil-A is a fast food restaurant chain that graced the U.S. with its blessed existence when it was established here in the South, in my home state of Georgia, by a fella named S. Truett Cathy in 1946. Chic-fil-la is widely known for having the most polite staff, their chicken sandwich; also known as a "chicken burger" in other countries, and their iconic slogan "Eat Mor Chikin". If you've flown into Georgia and left the Atlanta airport, you've probably passed a handful of billboard signs, on the way to your hotel, that displayed a scene of mischievous cows "plastering" the slogan in some cartoon-ish way.
Recently, Chic-fil-A, jokingly referred to as "God's food" here in the South, dropped two new menu items. A caramel crumble milkshake that I've not tried yet, and a new sandwich...which is the point of this post, folks! It's called the Honey Pepper Pimento Chicken Sandwich. The sandwich consists of pickled jalapenos covered in honey nestled on the bottom bun, your choice of chicken filet (original, spicy, or grilled) topped with pimento cheese and a top bun. Pimento cheese is a southern staple so the good Lord in Heaven knows us folks down here in the South were chomping at the bits as we waited anxiously for the day to arrive when we could pull up to our local Chic-fil-A and order from a friendly server this highly-anticipated splendor. Ella and I were especially excited but waited until after its launch date so that I could read the reviews first. Most reviews were consistent with the opinion that the pimento cheese overshadowed the chicken filet. This didn't deter us from wanting to try it ourselves, however, so we went last night before a grocery shopping trip. It's always a good idea to go grocery shopping on a full tummy, right?!? We shared one sandwich and decided to add bacon, tomato, and lettuce to it.
It did not disappoint!!! 10 outta 10! Two thumbs up! Get in my belly scrum-diddly-umptious! The honey smothered pickled jalapenos complimented the pimento cheese well. The pimento cheese was rich and decadent. We both agree that it was a good call adding the bacon, lettuce, and tomato as these ingredients helped to cut the richness of the generous slather of pimento cheese atop the chicken filet. I'm so glad we shared because that turned out to be one massive sandwich!
